In addition to what we like to call our Specialty Woods, Figured Black Walnut & Spalted Maple, we also carry a large stock of Live Edge Slabs in a variety of woods, such as Ash, Basswood, Boxelder, Catalpa, Black Cherry, Elm, English Walnut, Hackberry, Hickory, Locust, Knotty Pine, Oak, Red Cedar and Sycamore.

We HAND SELECT all lumber for listing and we know what you are looking for. Our expert sawyer knows that attention to the details is so important to get that Heirloom Quality Lumber our customers have grown to expect. LARGE WALNUT TREES are a crime to waist so nothing goes unused at The Lumber Shack, even the scraps are used or sold for home heat or end up in our boiler which heats multiple buildings all winter long.

Such as Live Edge Slabs that are Bookmatched & Colormatched, Taxidermy Mount Slabs and Oval Cut Log Slabs, Circle or Bologna Log Slabs or Clock Slabs. As well as Table Top Sets, Gunstock Blanks, Turning Blocks, Lumber & Craftwood. We also carry a Line of Pre-Finshed Live Edge Furniture such as Coffee Tables, End Tables, Console Tables, Bars, and an assortment of Benches. Our Newest Addition to our Live Edge Furniture Stock are our Black Walnut Log Stump Stools, which could also be used as Stump End Tables.

From TREES standing either in your front yard, back grove or deep in the woods we can be sure to put them to good use. We utilize all that we can when harvesting our LUMBER. Although we do buy some cut logs almost all of our wood is personally harvested by our team.



After harvesting the wood, its TIME TO SAW. The Lumber Shack operates a Woodmizer LT70. Careful thought is used to make sure the log goes on the saw in the right position. Most of the time it isn’t the easiest way or the first way. When the log is ready to saw, good lumber handling ensures you get the highest quality lumber for your projects.

We like to STICKER right off the saw and AIR DRY under the roof until its time to go into the kiln where your lumber is carefully monitored till it reaches 6 to 10% moisture content, then carefully conditioned to remove stress.

We operate a DH4000 Nyle Dehumidification Kiln. All of our KILN LUMBER is heated above 145 degrees to kill any unwanted bugs, and is unsteamed to preserve the great contrast in color between the cambium or sap layer and the heartwood. Our walnut is unsteamed and dryed in our dehumidification kiln to preserve the original walnut colors that can only be found in the Midwest. In IOWA, the climate provides such growing conditions that walnuts thrive and develop that sought after deep, rich walnut color and tight growth rings.

After KILN DRYING almost all our wood is surfaced 2 sides on a spiral head planer, ensuring you get the smoothest surface we can provide, ready for you to get to work.

Our wood is almost always left as untouched as possible getting you the most NATURALISTIC product we can. If the wood is cut or edged, it can’t be undone so we leave it in hopes to help out the widest arrangement of customers.

LUMBER is carefully handled all through the processes and keeps on that way till it gets to you. Almost all our wood is see this, buy this slab, not one like it. We do all we can to make sure our descriptions are accurate as possible.
