Jean Dousset
CEO, Since 2008

For many, jewelry making is a profession…
For some, it is a calling…
For a select few, it is an identity

This is the case with Jean Dousset, who was born into the famed house of Cartier in Paris, France in 1971. A direct descendant of jewelry magnate Louis Cartier, Jean had an inherent knowledge of fine gems and precious metals from an early age. But more importantly, he had a passion for the craft and a willingness to learn the trade from the ground up.

Returning to Paris from his studies abroad at the age of 22, Jean headed to the global epicenter of high jewelry, Place Vendôme, and took his first job at Chaumet—the official jeweler of the Emperor Napoleon. It was what he calls "my awakening."

Applying his remarkable photographic memory to every diamond he examined there, Jean learned the subtle difference between a good cut and a bad cut, prismatic brilliance versus lackluster shine, excellent color from the merely mediocre. Moving to Boucheron three years later, Jean continued his apprenticeship—not just in gem selection but in jewelry design and manufacture—spending countless hours hovering over the designers’ tables and the craftsmen’s benches.

With the dawn of the new millennium, Jean joined Van Cleef & Arpels and relocated to the United States. But serving the elite customers along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills was not enough for this great-great-grandson of Louis Cartier, who soon felt the time was right to strike out on his own.

Inspired by the marvelous pieces of the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, Jean founded Dousset Diamonds in 2005 and set about creating a jewelry line that was timeless, sophisticated and ultra-feminine. Drawn to his elegant designs, several notable actresses, including Golden Globe nominee Eva Longoria and three-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams, sought out Jean to design their engagement rings in the years that followed.

Having made his mark in Hollywood, Jean founded Doussetdiamonds.com in 2010 with one ambitious goal: To match his talent for personalized diamond selection with the traditional handcrafting of his own unique designs, while passing on the savings made possible by online sales to the modern consumer…

And, with his best regards, to you.
